SAM CARR - DOWN IN THE DELTA
Sam Carr "Down in the Delta" Album Review
Let the Drummer Have Some
Unless you're a big fan of Max Roach or a percussionist yourself, chances are you don't buy many records for the drumming. This one is defintely worth your money. Sam Carr is the anchor and the driver on this sparkling Delta blues record, keeping time like a German train conductor. Carr has a fine vocalist and guitarist in the lightly-recorded Andrew Turner. There's enough shuffle and drone here that you can close your eyes and pretend you are, as the title suggests, "Down in the Delta."

OTIS TAYLOR - DOUBLE V
Otis Taylor "Double V" Album Review
THINKING MAN'S BLUES
The Otis Taylor sound on the surface is simple. A repetitive groove and lyrics creating an almost a trance like vibe. The emotions they convey are an entirely different matter. His music is somewhat fleshed out this time with daughter Cassie adding a nice touch on vocals and bass. Songs like 'Mama's Selling Heroin'and 'Sounds of Attica are typical slices of 'REAL LIFE. Another sterling work of passion and soul. Taylor's impressive array of recordings continues.
