LEE PEGGY - BEAUTY AND THE BEAT
Lee Peggy "Beauty and the Beat" Album Review
Great easy listening jazz album...
I originally bought the LP as a kid of 13 and played it to death (1957). It was an early intro to jazz and I was a fan of big band music also. I recently have started to collect "older" albums that I had as LPs and was glad to see this one available. My other 1st album was Errol Garner "Concert By The Sea" that still is so soothing in traffic now that I have the CD.
I can highly recommend this album as well as Errol Garner. Ms Lee was in her prime and a joy to hear. Mr Shearing was one of the finest jazz pianists and pairs up with Ms Lee beautifully.
GUITAR SHORTY - WATCH YOUR BACK
Guitar Shorty "Watch Your Back" Album Review
Best Guitar Shorty disc by far
I've been a Guitar Shorty fan for more than 10 years, having seen him at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix, AZ several times. I own all of his previous CDs and this one is definitely a cut above. Shorty has become at least partially "big time" and that's a double-edged sword for me: fewer and fewer appearances at the Rhythm Room, but the best-produced discs he's ever done. I'm happy to know he's made it, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

JOHN LEE HOOKER - MORE REAL FOLK BLUES
John Lee Hooker "More Real Folk Blues" Album Review
You can't go wrong with John Lee Hooker and a Clean Polished Recording
Some John Lee Hooker albums are hard on the ears. That is of course no fault of Mr. Hooker's but simply the recording quality. These are songs that Hooker recorded for the Chess label which sound great. Whether you've never heard John Lee Hooker or are a big fan, you really need this album. The reason is easily summed up in one word: singing. The man has such a mean howl. If Mr. Hooker's voice just dosen't grab you and squeeze your guts than it's possible your heartless. I'm not saying it's a fact but it would probably be a good indicator.
